Funding opportunities

1. HKBWS China Conservation Fund

In order to promote bird studies and bird watching activities in China mainland, Hong Kong Bird Watching Society has established the HKBWS China Conservation Fund since 1999.

The aim of the fund includes:

  • To promote bird watching activities;
  • To facilitate observation and publishing of bird records;
  • To support ornithological researches directly related to conservation.

Small grants of up to HK$10,000 are offered to projects related to bird studies and bird watching. Fund applications are considered once a year. Project supported in the past included:

  • Survey of Xinjiang Ground Jay in Xinjiang
  • Survey of Derby's Parakeet in Yunnan
  • Bird survey in Chongming Island
  • Bird survey in Moulan at Guizhou

* Applications for the 2009 round will start in October 2008.

The China Conservation Fund support projects which facilitate collection of records. For example, it supported the development of "A Database of the Birds of China" in 2004/05 which is a collaboration between Shenzhen Bird Watching Society and the China Ornithological Society.

Since 2002, the HKBWS China Conservation Fund has supported the China Ornithological Society annually for the collection of bird watching records, and in turn as an important part of the China Bird Report. >> More info.
